I can see Scott Boras chuckling over how he pulled the wool over the Red Sox making them think J.D. Drew was actually going to play like a major league baseball player for them this season. It is a wonder Drew hasn't been arrested for impersonating a major league baseball player.
Red Sox are paying Drew $14.4 million for having a terrible season in which he is only 26 home runs behind the league leading Alex Rodriguez and 57 runs batted in behind Rodriguez who also leads the AL in that category.
Seven Red Sox players have more hits than Drew. Even Julio Lugo has more hits than Drew. Five Red Sox have more home runs than Drew. Six players on the team have more runs batted in than Drew and only has two more runs batted in than Coco Crisp. Eight Red Sox have more total bases than Drew.
He only has three players ahead of him in strikeouts about the only thing he has been good at this season. At mlb.com he is listed 14th on team in slugging among all players and is behind Dustin Pedroia, Alex Cora and Crisp. Seven regulars on the team have higher batting averages than Drew.
Six players have more extra base hits than Drew including Crisp and Pedroia. In other words the Red Sox have poured $14.4 million down the drain while paying Drew over a million dollars more than they are paying David Ortiz and Curt Schilling.
Players like Crisp making $3.8 million and Pedroia making the major league minimum salary of $380,000 are outplaying Drew who is showing he is not a money player except in the fact that he doesn't mind raking the money in but sure isn't earning it.
He should be ashamed to pick up his paycheck and should back up to the pay window wearing a mask hoping nobody recognizes his money grubbing hands.
