Roberto Donadoni, former Livorno coach and new coach for the Italian national soccer team, today released his squad for Italy's first match since the World Cup final, being a freindly against Croatia. However, only one of the world champions will actually be on the squad, due to the fact most of them have just returned from vacation and are out of shape. The returning medal-winner is Marco Amelia, the third-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup, one of only two on the WC squad to not play. Marco Amelia played under Donadoni when he coached Livorno. The second goalkeeper will be Flavio Roma of Monaco, already adding a non-serie a player to the squad, unlike the WC squad which had no players from other leagues.
Making up the ranks of the defenders will be Daniele Bonera of Milan, Giorgio Chiellini of Juventus, Pasqual of Fiorentina, Luciano Zauri of Lazio, and Sampdoria's Falcone, Terlizzi, and Zenoni.
The midfielders on the squad will be Ambrosini from Milan, Semioli from Chievo Verona, Livorno's Morrone, Gobbi and Liverani from Fiorentina, and Del Vecchio and Palombo for Sampdoria.
Strikers for the squad will be Rocchi from Lazio, Livorno's Lucarelli, Esposito from Cagliari, Caracciolo from Palermo, as is Di Michele, and finally Di Natale from Udinese.
Mostly small names for this squad, a very experimental lineup.
