It's Official: Indians Give Up on Season

When a team can't win against the Brandon McCarthy's of the world, their either: A) Not a good team, or B) Not playing well.

Unfortunately for the Cleveland Indians the story of the last 14 days has been that of the latter. There should not be a single fan satisfied right now. A team with such high aspirations (and a month ago, I would have said such high potential) cannot hit a slump like this.

Fausto Carmona threw a gem of a game, and the bats just weren't there to help him. Those same bats that the Tribe is allegedly built on. Peralta, Hafner, and Martinez went on an ofer parade, while Grady sqeaked out a single knock. Let me reiterate... against Brandon McCarthy. Who hasn't won a game since May. Well done. Well done.

And with no other news from the trading block as the deadline has come and passed... one has to wonder if the Indians have given up.

Don't get me wrong, Kenny Lofton was a nice aquisition, but he's not gonna bust a team out of a rut.

Every team has some down times, it's a loooooooooong season. Don't throw in the towel for the Tribe yet. There's a lot of season to go.

We're just lucky the Tigers are playing just as lousy... we should be 5 or 6 games back.

Just wait until we sweep the Yanks in Cleveland next weekend. That momentum will carry them through the rest of the year.

Image:Dictionary.jpg This user will go out of his way to point out errors in spelling and grammar. It's not because he wants to be rude, but because he loves the language so much.

"He" is used for the sake of a pronoun. It equally applies to she.

Run support is key to winning ballgames, and all teams have their ups and downs. The Tigers had one, the Red Sox had one, the Yankees had one. ALL teams are included. The Red Sox couldn't even sweep the DRays, or win 2 games against the frigging Royals, and they have the highest winning percentage in the MLB.

As far as run support and good pitching by a good pitcher (Fausto Carmona), now you know how Dice K feels almost every single time he pitches well.

Time to throw in the towel for this team, what do they have, the 4th best record in MLB?

It's definitely been a frustrating stretch, but considering how poorly Westbrook and Cliff have pitched this year (when they were even available), the Tribe is still in really good shape. They are still in the lead for the wild card, and have an offense that can carry the team, should it ever get going. Also, I want to stay optimistic because I am heading up to Cleveland to catch a game over Labor Day weekend, and I want it to matter.

They lose 4 games in a row, and you are calling them out? They are far from being out. Even Detroit isn't winning at the moment. If every team wins all the time, there would be nothing enjoyable to watch. These slumps and streaks is what makes baseball baseball.

They do have a name for fans like this...fair weather fans or bandwagon jumpers.

The same thing was said when the Cubs were 22-31, Zambrano beat up Barrett, Lou got suspended for kicking dirt on an ump. Boohoo, let's cancel the rest of the year because the team is struggling. Look what happened. Chicago is the hottest team in baseball since, and is in first place in the NL Central while Milwaukee has fallen on their collective faces.

As the saying goes, that's why they play the games folks. Anything can happen.
