Is it Senseless to Ponder This… LaDainian Tomlinson Might Put Up Better Numbers in Norv Turner’s Offense

What a glorious weekend! There’s nothing like locking oneself in a room, staring at a blank boob tube screen with the lights off no less. Watching the ceiling fan above, picking out a single fan blade…Watching it go round and round until you feel like you just went Wade Boggs on yourself. Feeling like you just drank 64 beers on a cross country flight. It’s either do that or do honey do’s with the ole ball and chain! Alone in that dark, cold room, (yes, dark…As the lights were off!) going back and between staring at the blank boob tube, ceiling fan blades and the four walls when I heard my conscience call, (or was that L.L. Cool J.). They were saying a lot, but one thing that did run through my head…It might sound preposterous to even picture, but given the circumstances doesn‘t sound too of the wall to even imagine. Or does it? Follow me here for a minute.
Now, it would be hard to fathom Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson making a greater impact in 2007 than he did in 2006 when all he did was run 348 times for 1,815 yards, caught 56 passes for 508 yards and scored an NFL record 31 touchdowns…Collecting more hardware in one year than 50 Cent has bullet holes. All of which coming under "Marty Ball" too. Now steps in Norv Turner…Who personally I believe is a downgrade. He’s better suited as being a bridesmaid rather than a bride, but oh well. One thing N.T. has a knack of is running the football…Handing the rock off is a staple in Turner’s playbook and Turner has shown as offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys in the 90’s that when he has a good running back, he loves to give him the rock over and over again. Ah yes, Emmitt Smith…Why all he is, is the all time leading rusher in the NFL. And no offense to Emmit, Tomlinson is most likely a better back.
While Tomlinson is what Emmitt once was to Turner’s offense, it’s not so off the wall to ponder the notion that L.T. might be able to surpass his Madden 2006 numbers. Is it ridiculous, probably somewhat, however in an appearance on NFL Network, Peter King said of Tomlinson's role in new coach Norv Turner's offense, "I will not be surprised if he touches the ball more this year than last." Okay, so more touches doesn’t mean anything…There’s always the risk of injury and Michael Turner will get a few carries no doubt, but given both track records it’s very conceivable given his brilliance on the football field the addition of Norv in San Diego could produce things never even dreamed of before…Only in fantasies!
Of course in every fantasy draft, everyone wants the coveted first overall selection. Although with Norv’s arrival in San Diego, the number one pick in every fantasy draft this season…Well, coveted might be the understatement of the year! Far cry from a year ago, trying to decide between the three-headed monster…Now isn’t it?
