Is boxing worth watching on PPV anymore?

by user DRE-LO

I feel sorry for the numerous amount of boxing fans who shelled out 49.95 last night to watch a one-sided fight between Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas.

Mosley absolutely dominated every round and looked like he was more than prepared especially with his father in his corner again. Vargas looked ill-prepared. He brought no intensity and it seemed like he did not learn anything from his first beating. Honestly, he looked washed up. Boxing fans may have their favorites. But the main reason that they pay near 50.00 is for the allure and hope that it would be a good fight and preferrably go all 12 rounds. It has rarely happened in the past few years. So I'll pose this question to my fellow ArmchairGM.com alums, is boxing worth watching on PPV? For me, they should put it back on national TV like they used to do.

No, I don't think it's worth watching on PPV. There are always matchups that seem like they'll deliver some fireworks but they mostly always fail to live up to the hype. Boxing continues to decline because it has an air of exclusivity and in reality, more boxing matches should be shown on ESPN, HBO, and even Fox Sports.

Boxing matches simply are worth the price of PPV and has not been for a long time now. Boxing is only as popular as the heavyweight division allows it to be. There has not been an entertaining and talented heavyweight in years. (sorry Lenox very talented but boring to watch). Boxing needs to rebuild its fan base and PPV is not the answer to that.

Boxing is definently not worth it anymore. It's changed alot since Tyson hasn't been around. As much as the boxing world doesn't want to beleive it, a figure like Tyson was the best thing for the sport. Sure, most of his publicity was for things besides boxing, but the contraversy that surrounded him is what brought people to watch him. It's just not as exciting when the boxers are good, respectful people.

Boxing matches should be nationally televised. But boxing has fallen off so much that it would be short-lived and shunned by the network execs it were to fail on National TV. At least we would not have to pay.

boxing is the worst and not that i ever did shell out money for PPV boxing but (a bunch of my friends and a few of theirs) now spend our money on the UFC,money better spent and you get more action. we do a rotation and go to a different persons house to watch each PPV.

can anyone other than me remember when boxing was on ch.7 (or ABC) i remember watching the matches with my father. also Boxing has to be the worst, why does it take almost a year to get a rematch between 2 fighters?you just trained for 6 months and now you need to train another 8 months for your next fight? i figure you would be in shape already.

Sum it up right here...Boxing sucks

Unless there is some widespread reform in the sport, it is finished.

Boxing live isn't bad. The feel of the crowd. The insults you can hurl at the fighters. It is still worth going to a boxing card at a small facility, like the Blue Horizon in Philadelphia.

Why are the worst sporting events on PPV while the best leagues are on networks?
