Born on July 21, 1877 in Columbia Falls, Maine, Irv Young (Irving Melrose Young) played for the Boston Beaneaters, Boston Doves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 6 year career. Young broke into the bigs on April 14, 1905 with the Boston Beaneaters, and put up a 2.90 ERA in 378 innings pitched in 1905, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Irv Young's best season was 1905, when he posted a 2.90 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 156 batters.
