Irons out for season

by Behbigben15

The Cincinnati Bengals' rookie RB Kenny Irons out of Auburn was diagnosed with a torn ACL. Irons was carted to the locker room yesterday during the first preseason game against the Detroit Lions. In the game Irons had 4 carries for 17 rushing yards, his longest carry was a 11-yd gain.

All injuries are devastating, especially knee injuries, but to tear a ligament in your first preseason game as a pro when your trying to make a name for yourself, or make the team, that just flat out sucks. Irons is expected to fully recover next spring, which means he most likely won't be a factor next year either. Irons had injuries last year in college that limited his play, and hurt his draft stock (dropped to second round). Before Thursdays game, Irons was third on the depth chart, and by the start of the season probably would have been second, but is now on the IR.

This incident brings out the question once again, Should the NFL do away with the preseason all together? Or at least limit it to two games? Tell me what you guys think about this.

A torn ACL on a RB is pretty much a kiss of death. The Bengals are truly cursed at RB. First, K. Carter went down, a little over a decade ago. Now, Irons.

And yes, I fully believe the pre-season should be cut, if not eliminated. Extend the season by 2 games. Keep 2 pre-season games. This crap about 4 pre-season games is simply the NFL way of sticking the middle finger up toward season ticket holders.

This should give him plenty of time to learn how to be a true Bengal and be ready for his first arrest by next off-season.

Keep the season at 16 games, but reduce the preseason to 2. And allow a bye week between the preseason and the season.

I like the idea of eliminating the preseason and having teams practice together a couple of times a week. The Bengals and Saints will do that this year before they play in week 3 of the preseason.

the only reason for pre season is for coaches to evaltae new young players and figure out who to keep and who to trash

It also has to be for regulars to get some reps or else coaches would only play guys who are on the fence to makethe team or are rookies, ect..
