University of Iowa quarterback Drew Tate had surgery to repair ligament damage to the thumb on his left (non-throwing) hand.
Tate hurt his thumb in Saturday's 20-6 loss to Michigan and wasn't listed on the team depth chart released Monday.
The surgery might sideline Tate for at least three weeks.
Senior Jason Manson will probably start against Northern Illinois this Saturday.
