Indians strand playoff hopes

Yes, there's still a lot of games, and at this point we are only a half game behind the Tigers in the AL Central, and the Tigers are coming for a 2-game set to the Jake next. Above that, we keep on telling ourselves that the offense will start getting those hits again. But, in my heart of hearts I feel that the turning point, and the reason there will be no playoffs this season was a particular play in the 5th.

Bases loaded, no outs. Jhonny Peralta gets picked off at 1st, sacrifice fly, fielders choice. And there you go, after such a promising start, the Indians score one on a great opportunity and leave the rest on. What they left on were their playoff hopes. The Yankees, although playing well, aren't supposed to be that much better than the Indians, but Cleveland just blew it. They could feel the noose tightening, and they can't do a thing.

For a while, I'd been scared that we won't make the playoffs. I'm not scared anymore that we won't, I'm convinced. And just like that, I'm in football season.

I realize, that this kind of post should really be on Ohio Misery, but my disgust has grown so much that I have to write it somewhere else. Oh, and WCT had this pegged in April.

Don't give up on the Indians yet. There's still 44 games left for them. They have come a long way, but so have the Mariners and the Yankees. Each are fighting for the Wild Card, and possibly the division. Yanks are now 4 games behind the BoSox (DAMN you Orioles), and Detroit is only a 1/2 game in front of Cleveland (DAMN Yankees), and Mariners are still alive and could, but probably won't, take over the division over the Angels.

I love how this Indian fan is trying to make sense out the weekend by saying comments like "The Yankees, although playing well, aren't supposed to be that much better than the Indians, but Cleveland just blew it." Umm.. yea they are supposed to be that much better. Look at the pitching staff on each team and the lineup on each team on paper.

Cleveland Pitching>Yankee Pitching

Yankee Hitting>>>>>>>>Cleveland Hitting

Nah, CC Sabathia might be the best pitcher between both teams, but after him Wang and Pettitte are better. Than Carmona, then Hughes, Clemens, and Mussina, then the rest of the Cleveland pitchers.

I put carmona after them because he gave up 4 earned runs against the yanks and lost the game. plus he's young. in the future? he's probably better, but not right now.
