East Midlands Derby with a Difference
Tribute to Heart Attack Victim
It’s not often that a Carling Cup tie between 2 Championship sides gets a mention on the regular news. But the clash between Leicester City and Nottingham Forest was no ordinary 2 nd round replay. Just over a month ago there was a spate of footballers dropping dead on the pitch due to heart failure. I think we have all read the articles posted on AGM at the time so I will not go into any further detail about the notable victims. One near death incident happened as well and was reported by Pittsburgh Gunny. It was the collapse of Leicester City’s defender Clive Clarke during the Carling Cup match with Nottingham Forest. Forest was leading at the time 1-0, but for obvious reasons the match was abandoned.
As a gesture to Clarke--who is recovering well now due to Forest’s medical staff reacting so quickly--Leicester let the Forest goalkeeper walk the ball into an empty net after the kick-off. Nothing like this has ever happened before to my knowledge and is unlikely to happen again.
Just so you know Leicester did win the match 3-2 with an injury time goal.
I guess this shows that no good deed goes unrewarded.
Have a look at it:
