If you hate football, watch this!

Americans do not like Football as much as "their own" games. But I believe, that with these goals you are about to see, that some users of ArmchairGM may actually like football. Maybe. Well, it was worth a shot. So here goes...

The BBC runs a monthly "Goal of the Month" competition, and these are the December goals, all from the Premiership. This is the best competition they have ever had. The competition asks for viewers to select the best, and if they agree with the pundits', then they get tickets to a match. I'm not offering that, I just want you to enjoy these goals.

What do you think then!? I was amazed, and I actually watch football on a fairly regular basis. Which do you think was the best? I go for Goal I, as it was scored against one hell of a good team... :) But Matthew Taylor's Goal, Goal C, I thought was the best.

I'd have to go with F or J because they're the only two that doesn't look like they were made completely on luck.

Luck!? They all tried to score, in fairness. In December, most of them did. J was good teamwork, I'll agree.

Anyone can kick the ball towards the goal and "try" to score and eventually one will go in, it's a matter odds.

Maybe for kids kicking around in a park it's mainly luck - but for a professional footballer it's completely different. The reason these guys earn a living is the level of skill they have and the way they can control a ball - goal E is a perfect example of that, once that left his boot there was no doubt where it was going, had his foot been positioned a fraction of an inch in any direction and the ball is nowhere near the goal - it's a skill to be able to do that, not luck.

Why does everybody kiss their hands? They don't kiss each other's hands too? These goals are nice and all; it's too bad you have to watch 9 million hours of feetball for every goal...

You need to appreciate the grinding qualities necessary to win a game. US Sports are more drama, where you can score on every play. In British games there are actually periods of the game where you don't try to score. E.g. a safety shot in snooker. Or in a game of cricket.

If you'll watch the world cup you're more interested in Football/soccer than most Americans.

alex- you're saying soccer is more tactical than baseball? are you kidding me? baseball has more strategy in one inning than an entire soccer match. in any case, i am learning to appreciate soccer as well as aussie football. all sports are great and they shouldn't be compared. they are all different. i do have to say that i am partial to baseball, i have many english, irish and aussie friends here in new york and they all took to baseball quickly and love it. they tell me the more they watch it and understand it the more they appreciate the game. and they love that there is no clock.

Here's a clip of one of the best goals I've ever seen. It's pretty old, but it's a clip of George Best from his days in the NASL. Enjoy (http://www.y...=U2HWUbFGHMU)
