Ichiro Suzuki became the third-fastest player in major league history to reach 1,500 hits when he singled in the second inning Sunday against Oakland Athletics' Lenny DiNardo.
Suzuki got his 1,500th hit in his 1,060th game. Only Al Simmons (1,040) and George Sisler (1,048) reached the mark quicker, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Ty Cobb is fourth at 1,070.
"He's a marvelous player and what I enjoy is watching him have fun," Seattle manager John McLaren said.
I would like to congratulate Ichiro for his amazing MLB career so far in his 6 1/2 year career here in the United States. I would have loved to imagine seeing Ichiro play his entire career here so that he could be in the records with the all time greats.
