Acquired:

Signed as a free agent July, 2006

2006:

Joined the Lions in July after being released by the Montreal Alouettes. Ian appeared in one game for the Als where returned five punts for 18 yards vs Hamilton (Jun 22/06). He made his Lions debut in Week 12 @ Saskatchewan and finished the season with 14 kickoff returns for 324 yards (23.1) and 27 punt returns for 263 yards (9.7). Ian also contributed on offence with 10 carries for 39 yards and one reception for five yards and also enjoyed a productive post season with three kickoff returns for 81 yards (27.0) in the West Championship, six kickoff returns for 51 yards in the Grey Cup plus the Lions’ only touchdown on a 25-yard romp.

2005:

Smart was on the Buccaneers' practice roster.

2004:

Smart gained 26 yards on two carries in four games with the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers... He gained 201 yards on 41 carries with the Scottish Claymores.

2003:

Smart attended training camp with the NFL New York Jets and played in pre-season action... He was then allocated to the NFL Europe Scottish Claymores.

College:

Smart gained 6,647 yards and scored 95 touchdowns in 45 games at C.W. Post... He holds five school records including most career touchowns (95), most rushing yards in a single season (2536), and most career rushing yards (6,647).

Personal:

During the off-season, Ian coaches high school track and field in addition to his job as a personal trainer. Ian was a Physical Education major in college and was heavily involved in track and field, specifically the 100 m and 200 m events.
