I Wish Someone Would Take Offense!

I don't know if it's just me, or is the Detroit Tigers's offense struggling a bit? Yes, we're hitting .287 as a team, 1st in MLB. But since out 11-7 victory over the Mariners last weekend, we're hitting .235 with only 22 runs (3.3 runs/game). Not the typical Detroit statistics. Granted Minnesota is 4th in the AL ( MLB - 10th) with their 4.09 era, but Kansas City is 9th in the AL ( MLB -19th) with a 4.50 era. There's nor reason that we shouldn't have put up an average 5+ runs in the last 2 series. This worries me a bit. Minnesota has a pitching staff similar to what we may face in the postseason (someone find me some wood to knock on). BOS - 3.78 era and LAA - 4.08 era. It wasn't like we were resting a bunch of our players.

I didn't mind the Minnesota series so much because our pitching showed up and swept them, but against KC I was shocked. It reminded me of a high school game I once played in where we thought a team was so bad that we didn't prepare ourselves to play and got slaughtered. Two bad things about the series: we only scored more than 2 runs once [1] and we gave up 5+ runs in every game. It just doesn't sit well with me. One positive: we got to see some potential relievers we can add to our bullpen. I'm thinking we can add David Riske (2.42 era, 34 K, 18 BB, 41 hits) or Octavio Dotel (3.43 era, 26 K, 10 BB, 21 hits) to the couple that I mentioned last week in Trade Deadline Looms. Just about a week away. It's one of the most exciting parts of the baseball season, though this looks to be a quiet year. Of course I've heard that before...

The Tigers did the same thing last year when they slumped. Their bats were so hot at the begining of the year, they were bound to slump a little bit. I wouldnt worry about it though. They will be therein Oct.

Relax. The Red Sox did this for 45 games or so, and it finally looks like they've snapped out of it. Your Tigers will be fine.

That just goes to show that Runs does not translate to a winning record. And pitching still reigns king in the MLB

Considering that the phillies starting rotation, once 6 deep now only has 3 consistant starters...2 of those having ERAs above 5 (and one being over 40)...The phils needed to produce runs in droves...

Good point, BigPPup, but if I wanted to argue with that, the Padres have the best pitching so far. 361 runs allowed, which is 32 runs less than the Red Sox (2nd place). The Pads are still is 2nd place. They have to have SOME sort of offense.

Its a marathon not a sprint, the Tigers are fine. The only time they cant slump is October, thats the only sprint.
