I Think the Sonics are Going to Oklahoma City

Seattle Sonics minority owner and public enemy #1 Aubrey McClendon brilliantly said that the intention for Seattle was to move the team to Oklahoma City. According to the AP, McClendon said.......

"We know it's a little more difficult financially here in Oklahoma City, but we think it's great for the community and if we could break even we'd be thrilled," he told the newspaper, also saying he was "under a self-imposed gag order" in regards to the business end of the Sonics.

Retard.

I think he forgets that if the Sonics continue to struggle once they make their move to OK City, the fan base is going to drop. If the fan base drops, the Sonics franchise will be no longer. Seattle is a small market, it's tucked up 200 miles away from Canada, but it's the city in which they have been thriving for 40 years.

McClendon continued is idiotic rambling by saying this.....

McClendon said Oklahoma City has a "can-do spirit" and a supportive fan base.

"This is a sports town; nobody ever knew it was a pro sports town. I think it is," he said.

On the flip side, he said he doesn't feel Seattleites have the same enthusiasm.

"They take pride in Seattle not needing a NBA team to be considered a world-class city. That's probably true, they don't," he said.

Thank you Sherlock.

So brace yourselves Seattleites, see the Sonics 41 more times, because it'll be the last 41 times. I just wonder why literally every Seattle sports franchise has threatened to move?

Yep, it looks liek Seattle is losing their team. My question - why? Seattle is a much larger market than OKC....

IS the NBA now following the NHL lead in placing franchises in un-sustainable locals?

Hmm...saw Harvard's team play a year or 2 ago...I don't remember the team being strikingly white, however: That was an incredibly racist comment...

Its just that Harvard really isn't predominantly white...the psyche of the university is actually quite the opposite...however i just looked at the 'vard's roster and its got 7 or 8 white players, 3 black players and an asian...so predominantly white...surprising really considering their holier than thou attitude... I'd have to look into it...by the school is so concerned about being diverse that it isn't (at least i don't believe) representative of the population...

They've actually got bigger fish to fry...now their staff isn't very diverse at all (incredibly tenured old white men...mostly)... The only good thing i really ever see out of havard is a willingness of some professors to do...essentially, what they believe...for example, they recently did a study suggesting that men were more...apt to handle/do scientific and mathematic jobs than women...of course, they also credited this to conditioning (in that women are or were essentially brought up not to like it/want to do it for the better part of a few centuries...) Only now can they really seize those types of opportunities...

The problem here is that by basically promising a team to OKC when he moved the Hornet back to New Orleans, David Stern set the table for this move. Now, when the Sonics (who really are a historically significant franchise with an NBA title!) go to OKC, Seattle will insist on getting a replacement franchise. Either another city will have its team ripped away and moved to Seattle, NBA will have to tell the city of Seattle to go away, or they will have to over-expand the league... AGAIN!!!

This is going to be goofy considering the amount of hype that everyone tried to put around the whole Oden v. Durant as the major draw to the Pacific northwest.

I place a lot of the blame on Howard Schultz. He knew that Bennett had no real intention of keeping the team in Seattle, yet he proceeded with the sale anyway. He may have had some difficulty in finding other purchaser, but I think he has an obligation to the city that helped him make his billions.

I having difficulty figuring out why you think a) Oklahoma is "redneck central" and b) a bad sports market? On what information do you base these opionions on? We had the chance to support a horrible team , the Hornets, and we did it with flying colors! There is money to be made in Oklahoma. An NBA team has no one to compete with on ticket sales in this market. Im sick and tired of hearing about all the tradition of Supersonic basketball. If the people in Seattle would of had the tradition of going to games, even when the team stinks, I really don't think we would be having this discussion. Would we?
