I Just Don't Get It: TO edition

I’ll admit it, I hate TO. That’s right, I HATE TERRELL OWENS. I think he’s obnoxious, selfish, annoying, yada yada yada. And for the most part I think he is what’s wrong with sports.

Now that I said that, I have to say that I think he’s getting a bad rap right now from ESPN/the media. Tonight on SportsCenter, they talked about the sign he put up in the cowboys locker room which says something to the effect of “Because of all the questions about the new 81, the original 81 will not be taking questions until Sunday”. ESPN reported this as if it was bad.

I just don’t get how this is bad. A man who has a history of being a loudmouth shuts up and essentially says “lets just play the game”. That is both reasonable and intelligent. So much so that I wonder who the hell told him to say it.

Could it be that TO has turned the corner? Everyone remembers how into Tony Romo he was when Bledsoe was the only option. It certainly was no surprise to see TO yelling at Romo on the sidelines as he threw pick after pick on MNF. However it was surprising that TO was not yelling in anger, but encouragement.

After the game, he also corrected a reporter when the reporter referred to the Pats as the “best team in football”. TO reminded the reporter that both teams are 5-0.

The Lions have a winning record at their bye week, NHL players look like I did when my girlfriend shrunk all my old t-shirts and I gained some weight (read: the New Jerseys SUCK), and Drew Brees remains a shitty fantasy quarterback…but what I just don’t get most is how TO suddenly seems like a voice of reason!

Detroit Sports City looks forward to TO’s continual transformation. He also is looking forward to the OSU/MSU game where he will get a chance to introduce diehard MSU fans to Columbus and OSU gamedays. Any suggestions from WSAS readers regarding how to show these Spartans how it’s really done (also bringing some non-football fans, must convert them too) should be sent to detroitsportscity@gmail.com

It's been better this year, but the media, particularly local, waits around for T.O. to do anything that could be misconstrued to be even a little bit negative if you report it from a certain perspective and add/omit select details. I realize that T.O. is paying for his past deeds, but he has been more or less a good citizen and teammate in Dallas, particularly this year. The media is just looking to sell a sensationalized story, no matter how little of it is based in fact.

I think he's only been good this year. Remember, he's only good when things are going well. He's getting his passes, and the team is winning. Once there's just a bit of turbulence he turns on everyone. It's really on a matter of time. Because, as he's shown, TO only cares about TO.

I don't think T.O. did anything of significance last year. Parcells created much more of the drama around T.O. last year than T.O. himself.

I get all your points, but TO is a jerk. Good receiver though, often times, great.

T.O. is getting a bad rap now and he always has. He is absolutely not what is wrong with sports. He is everything that is great about sports. You hate T.O. but I doubt anyone on here will say the same about Mohamad Ali. He was far more flamboyant than T.O. The guy plays hard and plays to win. He is 100% emotionally invested in the game. You never see him in the back of a police car like ex-media-darling Micheal Vick or Ray Lewis. So the guy has a loud mouth, so what? He comes to play on sunday and expects the rest of his team to also. He can run his mouth all he wants as far as I am concerned because he is the best in the business and he backs up every bit of it. Don't hate, appreciate, you don't get to see athletes like T.O. all the time.

Umm who cares about TO. He is overrated! Does he single-handedly change a game. Umm I dont think so. So many better receivers out there with 10 times more class. He and Romo look like a bunch of school kids out there with those stupid ass smiles on their face, like everything is funny. Its getting old, act your age.

1) I would say Dallas cares about TO.

2) He is absolutely not overrated.

3) He does indeed singlehandedly have a huge impact on the game.

4) There are not many if any better recievers out there.

5) So are they not supposed to be having fun? And what do you have against school kids?

I agree that he is getting a bad rap from the media...did anyone else see Skip Bayless on First Take this morning? He called him a coward who can't go over the middle and who shits the bed in big games...

I guess Skip missed his Super Bowl performance and The Catch II...

another reason why he is a blithering idiot

Couldn't agree more with your assessment of Skip.

I think people just don't understand TO. I work with people that I don't understand and It is not difficult to work with them. I think this same principle applies to Romo and TO. They are 2 people from different place and act differently but they make it work. This is simply how group dynamics work. Romo is clearly a better leader than any other QB TO has played with and you see that in the way the 2 respect each other.

I also think that TO not answering questions is a good thing. He clearly has all his attention on a big game.
