I'm already tired of this, and it's only gonna get worse

Have you heard? Joe Girardi chose the number 27 for his new job as manager of the yanks. He did this as a reminder that it's his job to win the franchise's 27th championship.

Ugh.

I'm absolutely positive this will be the most annoying thing I have to listen to over and over and over again for the next three years at least. Anytime I check the game on YES, I'm sure Michael Kay will mention it, no matter how infrequently I happen to click over during between-innings breaks on Mets games. If I happen to listen to 880 AM, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman will argue over who mentions it more each game. And during any of the 37 times the yanks have the game of the week on Fox, Tim McCarver and Joe Buck will shove it down my throat as though someone just spotted a real, live unicorn each time they bring it up.

God, I already hate this. Can you think of anything else that will be repeated more than this piece meaningless drivel? Should Willie Randolph change his number to 3? Better yet, I'd love if Terry Francona changed his number to 2, as in "The number of championships won by the Red Sox since the yanks last won one." Now that would be something bearable.

In conclusion, Let's Go Mets!

I hadn't heard. But that's gutwrenchingly tacky. Thank you again, Yankees, for making me want to vomit.

I couldv'e sworn that Girardi has worn #27 before. I'm pretty sure he's wearing 27 in this picture: 325px-ConePerfecto.jpg

yeah, but his explanation at the press conference was the 27th championship statement. On the up side I don't ever have to watch YES. On the down side the BoSox play them enough that I will be forced to vomit over this by the end of the first series.

that's clearly 25...look at the sleeve...it's a 5...a 2 and a 5 means 25

The Yankees do not wear numbers on their sleeves. That picture is from David Cone's perfect game which was July 18, 1999. Joe DiMaggio died March 8, 1999. The 5 on his sleeve was worn by the entire Yankees team to honor DiMaggio. However, Girardi did have the number 25 for most of his playing career with New York.

Girardi is only putting more pressure on himself unless management told him to use that number to remind him his job is on the line so he better win in 2008.

how exactly does that put more pressure on himself? if he choose another number the yankees would suddenly not care if he won a world series there? the expectations are the same either way.

I seriously doubt he will get fired after the 2008 season... It'd take a bad, bad season, with high ownership expectations (i.e. betemit isn't playing 3rd)

I think he should use the team salary his number, say 190,000,000 to remind everyone that he has an advantage over the other managers

Betemit did OK for the few at bats but he is no A-Rod or Lowell.

He actually did pretty well in 2005 with Atlanta, replacing Chipper Jones while he was injured. Good extra base hitter, not a RBI and HR machine.

George: Dammit, wear #27 or ya fired! Got it?

Girardi: Oh, okay then.

And so begins a new era...

If he wins in 2008, is he done? Does he have to change to #28?

If he gets #27, he won't be around long enough to see #28. If Girardi can't last more than a (Manager of the Year winning) season with the Marlins, HOW FAST will George's head in the glass case grow irritated??? Girardi doesn't see 300 games as Yankees manager - You heard it here first!@!!

The Yankees should make the post season, what they do once they get there will dependon if the team has any heart.

Don't worry fellas, the Yankees are not going anywhere next year. Sure all the bull about Girardi and stuff is quite aggravating, but look at the facts. They get Girardi in place of Torre. Lose A-Rod. Most likely losing Rivera. Possibly Posada. Their rotation will be anchored by Chein-Min Wang, who is good but not good enough to be a no. 1, and Joba Chamberlain, possibly Andy Pettite, kei Igawa and Ian Kennedy. That don't even scare my grandma. The Red Sox are on the rise, the Yankees are falling off a cliff, I can't wait until Josh Beckett fires a no-hitter in New York next year.

Do you still feel that way now? I think your predictions should have waited till I don't know contract negotiations are over?
