I'm Through With The Heisman

20
Vote

by Trizz

Hello, police I like to report a robbery, yes Darren McFadden has been robbed of his Heisman. Please hold and count backwards from 1000? Screw this I'll settle it this way...A good old fashioned Rant.

Why don't they just change the Heisman pose to a quarterback dropping back I mean this is ridiculous. Tebow had a great season no doubt about that but Darren McFadden was the Heisman this year. He is the Razorbacks offense, rushing, receiving, passing what doesn't he do. How valuable is Tim Tebow? The Gators were a championship team without him(even though he played a snap here-there) How valuable is Darren McFadden? You will see when Arkansas has a 4-5 win season without him next year. Except for Reggie Bush, which is another controversial pick, every year since 2000 it has been a QB, its bad enough they don't even consider defensive players anymore. The Heisman is a joke just look at how the Heisman winners aka "the best player in college football" does in the NFL

1998-Ricky Williams- A damn pothead that won't even get a spot on a practice roster
1999-Ron Dayne- A decent backup running back in the NFL
2000-Chris Weinke- Unofficially retired; could probably play for the Miami Dolphins soon
2001-Eric Crouch- Who???????????
2002-Carson Palmer- Okay ONE good Heisman
2003-Jason White-Only time he's even brought up in conversation is when your talking about the Heisman
2004-Matt Leinart- An average QB when he's healthy, even with 2 pro bowl recievers
2005-Reggie Bush-Arguably the most overrated player in the NFL
2006-Troy Smith- 6th round pick, he can't win the starting spot from KYLE BOLLER
2007-Tim Tebow- A 4th round prospect

Am I saying the Heisman means nothing, no. The Heisman is a great achievement but if you give it to the wrong person it belittles its value.

Call me stupid, but I think Colt Brennan should have won the Heisman instead. Although, McFadden is up a great player, and deserves it, too.

i wouldn;t have been upset if Brennan won, he set records that won't ever be touched unless it becomes a rule that a QB must play all 4 years

I agree. It should've been Brennan. Face it, if Brennan wasn't on the team, Hawaii most likely wouldn't have the undefeated season and Sugar Bowl.

Tebow wasn't even a true quarterback. He was a hybrid (QB/RB). The dude ran for 20 TDs and three for nearly 30. He was the Gators offense for he was a threat to throw and run each time he had the ball. Imagine if the Gators didn't have Tebow. Can you say New Orleans Bowl?

Sorry, but McFadden did not deserve the award over Tebow. Have you seen Arkansas's schedule this year? Chattanooga? North Texas? Florida International? McFadden actually played quite a bit of quarterback in the Wild Hog formation. Without McFadden, Felix Jones would have had a huge year - the Hogs wouldn't have only won 4-5 games (with that schedule, they have 4-5 wins just by showing up).

Tebow did a little bit of everything for the Gators & played just as big of a role for his team as McFadden did. And as far as professional potential, the Heisman has never been about that. We all knew Adrian Peterson was a better pro prospect than Troy Smith, but this is the Heisman, not the Kiper Jr. Award.

As a Vol, I can't believe I just wrote three paragraphs defending Tebow...

McFadden got screwed last year and I fully expected an Oscar-like make-up award going to him this year over Tebow, thus screwing Tebow. Tim had a hHisman year and not giving him the award this year would have been wrong. What if he suffers a major injury next season then goes pro? He'll have been robbed without even a chance at being made up. McFadden got screwed last year and the Heisman voters are QB happy. Troy Smith was a joke, and is a joke. Brennen's case was difficult because the Heisman is not a Career award but rather a season award. Is there a career award for guys posting 3+ college seasons? If there is, that's the award he deserves.

The QB position is the most important position in football, so they will always get the edge. And how can you deny what Tebow has done this year. Over 50 TDs! That's sick. And the Heisman has never been a great indicator of NFL talent.

Last year Colt Brennan had over 50 passing TD's, and didn't win the heisman, people say he doesn't play good enough teams, but I think that's bullshit, he's a much better QB than Tebow. But that's just my opinion.

Trizz, why does it matter how the Heisman winner does in the NFL? You said it, it's "the best player in college football." It only matters what they did that year in college. A lot of people are great college players that never go on to be great in the NFL. It's a different type of game.

its a different type of game but if you are the best player in college you should have some sort of legitimate sucess at the next level

Case in point: Charlie Ward. Good pick for the Heisman who went on to a decent career in the NBA because he was too short to play QB in the NFL.

one thing about tebow was that soooo many of his touchdowns were runs from 5 yards or less. I think i counted about 16 or so. if they give those carries to a running back is he even in the heisman talk?

But Tebow did get them. You can speculate all you want. He threw for 29 TDs and rushed for 22 TDs. He deserved the Heisman.

Troy Smith is only in his first couple years, just because his team isn't rushing him to screw up his career doesn't mean he'll never be an NFL starter.

Trizz, you hit the nail on the head! If I had a vote, it would have been Brennan, no questions asked. His team went unbeaten, Tebow's Gayturds had two really bad losses, Auburn in the Swamp and Georgia in bascially their back yard. Not only did Brennan and Hawaii go unbeaten, they won their conference title and are going to a BCS game. Tebow didn't impress me that much... then again, Rex Gross-man didn't either. I don't exactly see him going as a high draft pick, maybe 4th or 5th at best. I did get to see Brennan on the tube three times and the one thing that he has going for him is June Jones at the helm. After all, Jones did play in the NFL, so he knows something about the position.

My ballot (if I had one) would look like this:

1. Brennan 2. McFadden 3. Daniel

4. Tebow

Actually you are disagreeing with Trizz, saying that Brennan should be picked. He said it shouldn't be a quarterback.

I'm totally with you--Run DMC should have won the trophy. And Tebow--no Freshman or Sophmore has ever won it before, and I guarantee you this guy will not be playing on Sundays in the future. Totally another Weinke or Wuerfle--another Florida QB that ultimately won't be able to make it in the Pros--While McFadden will be going to pro-bowls for years.

cpcp, what I meant to say was that Tebow shouldn't have won it. Don't get me wrong. I would have loved to have seen the McFadden kid take it just to shut the Gayturds up.

reggie got the saints to the NFC championship last year... i know he did not do it by himself but he played a large role, williams before he got caught smoking pot every year was an awesome back maybe even hall of fame some day... probly not but if he continued to develop like he was anythings possibble right?

I couldn't agree more.I'm a Penn St. fan so I have no reason to care.I watched both players play this year and Mcfadden is the real deal. The pros know real talent and he will be drafted much higher than Tebow.

Odd the award is for the Best College Football Player, not the best NFL prospect. College goodness != NFL goodness. NFL is a travesty in this respect for many many reasons.
