I'm Glad Sean Casey Got Hurt

Because it forces the Pirates to use Craig Wilson, the second best hitter on the team. Pittsburgh has done everything possible to keep Wilson out of the starting lineup for the past few years. Most recently, they signed Burnitz and Casey, both inferior hitters, at the positions he can play. The longer Casey's day-to-day injury keeps him out the better the Pirates will be. In Wilson's two games starting for Casey, he already has hit three homeruns.

Although the season is young, Craig Wilson and Freddy Sanchez have outperformed the two guys who replaced them in the lineup, Jeromy Burnitz and Joe Randa. Dave Littlefield was given $10 million to work with and he spent it on "strengthening" two positions that did not need to be touched. He should have gone after one legitimate bat at 1B or added a couple valuable pitchers. Instead, the money was spent on expensive, old guys. The way Pittsburgh spends their limited funds is what sets them apart from Oakland.
