Hughie Critz (Hugh Melville Critz) was born on September 17, 1900 in Starkville, Mississippi. He made his Major League debut on May 31, 1924 for the Cincinnati Reds. In 1924, his rookie year, he hit .322 with 3 home runs and 35 RBI. Critz played for the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants over the course of his 12 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Hughie Critz's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1926, when he knocked in 79 runs. However, others believe that it was 1928, when he hit for a .296 average and knocked in 52 runs.
