Hugh Poland (Hugh Reid Poland) was born on January 19, 1913 in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. He made his Major League debut on April 22, 1943 for the New York Giants. In 1943, his rookie year, he hit .183 with 0 home runs and 15 RBI. Poland played for the New York Giants, Boston Braves, Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 4 year career.
