How well will Clemens Do?

11
Vote

by user Awrigh01

According to the New York Post, Roger Clemens will join the the Yankees ' rotation next Monday against the Blue Jays. Clemens is scheduled to start Wednesday at Double-A, which is expected to be his final minor league rehab appearance barring a setback.

Will Clemens be as dominant this year as he was the past couple of years? Are the Yankees too far behind to make a difference?

Clemens disappearing act may not go over well in New York unless he wins a lot of games for Yankees. I agree with Farnsworth that a player should be with the team all season and not just on days he pitches. Being paid the kind of money Clemens is being paid he should not have been allowed to have special conditons in his contract even if he will be 45 this year. He was only one game over .500 for Astros in a league with no designated hitters so can't see him pitching any better with no automatic outs in American League. Instead of a pitcher he will be facing hitters like Jim Thome and David Ortiz. If he can win 5 more games than he loses then he may help the Yankees.

No and No...never count out the yankees and don't count out clemens... Unlike Houston, the yankees had a nasty lineup...and clemens, based on last year can still pitch...until we have a reason to doubt him, I don't see why not

Clemens will help out a hurt rotation, but I am not sure that he along can save the Yankees. THe Yankees are a team that has to find a way to weather this injury storm right now. They will need someone else to step up in conjunction with Clemens if they want a chance.

They may be able to back into the playoffs on talent alone, and Clemens in the playoff rotation matters.

The title to this column sucks. "Well Will"? Huh? Just get rid of the "Well". Clemens is a douchebag and belongs to be stuck on an overpaid team that will rival the Devil Rays for the AL basement.

As snakebit as the Yankees staff has been, Ron Guidry would help the Yankees, and he's 54 years old. I'd consider bringing back Goose too. Clemens is a proven winner, and if the Yankees hadn't had the injuries they've had, he would likely be in Houston still. Roger's looking at this as an opportunity to be a savior, and he could be right.

Is Clemens going to request permission from MLB to have a bullpen cart haul his ass to the mound so he can conserve energy from not walking before/after each inning? This move is going to backfire much to the delight of every non Yankee baseball fan.

Maybe letting Guidry pitch is a good idea. He certainly has not made a lot of impact as a coach.

I think Clemens will do okay -- 5-6 innings, 3-4 runs. That makes him about as good as most fourth starters and paid about 10 times as much. I do think he will bring a lot of energy to the team -- he's more intimidating than Torre and maybe that is what the players needed most. I think Torre is, at most, effective, but uninspiring. I have to admit, I fell for the excitement of "The Rocket Returns" on Saturday. He does have great mechanics and form. That said, looking at it coldly, we basically got a really expensive ___________ (fill in the blank with the name of a solid fourth starter of your choice: Paul Byrd, Steve Trachsel, etc.)
