How many games?

With many people believing that Jon Gruden is on the hot seat this year, how many games do you think he needs to win in order to keep his job?  Or do you believe that his job is safe at all?  As a huge Bucs fan myself, I did find myself believing that he could do no wrong after winning Super Bowl 37.  I even believed that maybe Chris Simms might have been the answer at quarterback, if he only got the snaps in.  I guess I should have gone back and watched some old longhorns game film for believing that one.  If I had my guess, I would say at bare minimum, 10-6, with at least one victory in the playoffs, and the offense in the top 10 for him to keep his job.  What do you guys think?

You can't fire a coach that makes the playoffs, in my mind. If you make the playoffs, maybe win the division, then he's going to be safe.

Making the playoffs isnt a good indication of how good a team is anymore. The true measure of team is that it improves from the start of the season all the way to the end. If they are inconsistant for most of the season and barely make it into the playoffs you can rest assured they will be looking for a new coach next season especially with Bill Cowher lurking about.

9 wins and he's good to go. If he can pick a QB, that'll be even better.

Shouldn't this be in the locker room? Anyway, anything over 7 wins should keep him around...you never get rid of a Super Bowl winning coach that easily

The Bucs are not going to fire John Gruden for never having the luxury of a quality starting quarterback.

Grudog is gone after this season. The handwriting is on the wall. You can see it showing based on the cutting of Rice. TB is back to where they were, pre-Dungy.

Gotta make the playoffs, absolute must. At least some progress and strong development down the stretch.

Getting into the playoffs don't automatically make your job safe. Look at the leagues best record last year. 14-2, held by the San Diego Chargers. Their upper management, however, said goodbye to one of the top end coaches in the league when they fired Marty Shottenheimer. I feel the way a team performs in the playoffs is a key stat when considering the safety of a job. He needs to win probably 10 regular season games, and one or two playoff games.
