How did I know this would happen?

I didn't even watch as Ortiz popped out to end the game. I knew he didn't have a chance. I knew the Red Sox didn't have a chance at winning.

This happened for a few reasons. First of all, Fausto Carmona is suddenly Cy Young after being Letroy Hawkins as the closer against Boston for two games last year. He ate the entire lineup for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and left after 8 redonculous innings. I had some hope when Borowski came in, but alas.

Second and the rest, they made idiots of themselves. Julio Lugo getting caught stealing in the 8th. Varitek and Cora screwing up the signs.

Worst of all, Coco slowing up on the run home, he ends up getting thrown out at the plate. Wow. I didn't think Coco would ever not hustle. I guess he saw Josh Barfield hesitate before throwing home, and he though he'd have an easy go of it to tie the game at 1. Oh no, Coco. Barfield throws a seed to Victor Martinez who stones him at the plate. Gah.

Joshy Bear must be absolutely livid. He's 0-2 in his last two starts, giving up three runs combined. He was getting a shitload of run support before, and all of sudden, it's like Wakefield's pitching in the beginning of the year. They decide, eh, whatev, we'll let you pitch and see what happens.

I'm still not sure how I feel throwing Kason Gabbard out to win a series against one of the AL's best teams. We'll see what happens. 3 out of 4 I'll, a 4 game split will be disappointing. Yes, I just crowned their asses! And the Red Sox let em off the hook!

A major leaguer gets referred to as "Joshy Bear." Another first here on ArmchairGM!

Carmona is built like a free safety.

I was hoping when Boston won the World Series back in 2004 that all the "Woe is us!" and "Boston's doomed!" bluster that built up over 86 years of futility would go away. It appears I was mistaken; I guess that kind of pessimism is impossible to un-learn ...

There's a difference between being realistic and being negative. Last night got me a little riled up, I'm making much more sense this morning. THat's what happens when you write right after a game.

Fair enough. I guess my views are a little off-center, seeing as how I root for a team well on its way to its 10th straight losing season after back-to-back ALCS appearances.

Its Boston...they've always had an inferiority complex...especially to NY... My two old/new roommates (I'm in a summer flux right now) are sox and yanks fans (individually) and its funny to hear them banter...however, i can't help but hope the yanks get right into it, for my and the collective sanity...the world has been off balance for a few months a good ole AL East pennant race would be superb...

I don't know if Fausto made a deal with the devil or not (does anyone get that reference?) but the guy is good this year. Really good. He's 13-4 with a 3.31 ERA. He outdueled Santana in a 2-0 game, and now he's outdueled Beckett in a 1-0 game. No shame in losing to him. And let's say the Sox had tied it in the 6th, we go to extra innings and MAYBE we win. But maybe we lose.

A split in Cleveland isn't the worst thing in the world if we lose tonight. I know it seems horrible because New York is pounding on KC, but keep in mind that Cleveland is a really good team. Also, they're 35-17 at home. That's where they've gotten their wins. To me, the biggest disapointment in recent Sox games was splitting 2 of 4 to Toronto in Fenway and losing 2 of 3 to the Royals.

We were up against Sabathia and Carmona back-to-back and we split. That isn't too bad. And we also won with Lester on the mound. On Monday, if you had told me that going into Thursday's game, we'd have a chance to win 3 of 4, or split, I'd take it.

And Gabbard isn't exactly up against another Ace, either. Cliff Lee's ERA is only 5.95. Look for Manny to have a good night tonight.

Meg I know you're sweatin' it out right now, but the Sox will be just fine...they have much better pitching than the Yankees and a comparable offense...they'll right the ship soon

Carmona has such nasty stuff. and I feel the same way about the sox about blowing it this season. We sox fans have to stick togather and just hope they will come out on top.
