How Sweep It Is! Rockies Win NLCS!

Cinderella is going to the ball! The Colorado Rockies just swept the Arizona Diamondbacks and are World Series bound. The Rockies have now won 21 out of their last 22 and are 7-0 thus far in the 2007 post season. They'll take on the winner of the Red Sox/Indians in the World Series, starting Wednesday, October 24th. The first ever World Series game in Colorado will take place on Saturday, October 27th.

Matt Holliday broke open the game in the bottom of the 4th inning with a 3-run home run off starter Micah Owings to make it 6-1, while the crowd frantically chanted "MVP-MVP-MVP!" during his at-bat.

Franklin Morales started the game for the Rockies and had 4 solid innings of 1 run ball. Matt Herges came in for the 5th and pitched 2 innings to pick up the win.

The Diamondbacks scored 4 runs in the game, equaling the total output of their first 3 games. The pen was able to keep the Rockies from increasing their lead, as Juan Cruz relieved Owens in the 4th inning, going 2 1/3 innings and recording 6 K's. Chris Snyder hit a 3-run shot off of Brian Fuentes in the top of the 8th inning to close the lead at 6-4. After a triple by Justin Upton, the tying run came to the plate. However, Colorado reliever Manny Corpas came in to face pinch hitter Tony Clark, who struck out to end the rally.

Todd Helton caught the final out on a throw from Troy Tulowitzki to narrowly beat a sliding Eric Byrnes.

Congratulations to your 2007 National League champion Colorado Rockies!

One of the best plays for Byrnes in the series was when Holliday hit the home run in the third game and Byrnes ran straight into the wall full speed.

Seven straight wins without a loss in one postseason ties a record set by the 1976 Reds. As impressive a streak I've ever seen. I don't think they're good enough to beat either of the AL teams, but I didn't think they'd get this far either. Congratulations, Colorado!!

Not quite as impressive as Boston's 8 straight wins on the way to a title in 2004.

I will celebrate the "first day I see an AF not post something about how the Red Sox are amazing or refer to '04" every year. That is, if I see the day...

Considering Boston won the first four of those games while facing elimination, I have to agree that their streak was more impressive.

I thought we were using the eff@ck.yes system now? Or am I way off eff@cking.base?

A well placed "Fuck" always is appreciated, sometimes it may be medically neccessary! But as to not ruffle the groin feathers the Irritably Peevish, why not take our good friend, Creativity out for a spin?

Chances are, it will be dumb but at least we can't laugh at you if it isn't funny (and still know you meant "fuck")

We know you mean fuque, we read phuk in our heads, but you don't gotta say phuck! It's just fhuching overkill, for fxuck's sake! (it has an ephing silent x)

Now you try it, deahkcuf!

Kind of reminds me of George Mason a few years back, but they didn't win it all, lets see if Colorado can win it all. That would be cool to see, congrats to the Rockies.

That's a terrible comparison! George Mason was a mid-major NCAA team that lacked the talent to beat most of the teams they did in the tournament. Furthermore, George Mason stands literally no chance of making the Final Four in the next decade.

The Rockies are a professional team, just like the rest of the teams in MLB, and if you paid attention to the Rockies lineup this year, it really shouldn't be a surprise that they can outhit just about any other team in the National League. Based on the age of the players (Todd Helton excepted), this team could be a perennial power in the National League for the next couple years.

The only real comparison is that they both were lucky to make the playoffs/tournament and ended up winning a bunch of games when they got there.

What will the long layoff do the Rockies?...that is question now that they have swept the Diamondbacks. No team probably has ended a season so hot and carried it through the first two rounds of the playoffs. Congratulations Rockies!!

Yeah, tell me about it. If Jason Varitek is the only player to get at least 1 RBI, I guess we're screwed. We can't hit of friggin Jake Westbrook. HOW SAD!

Can anyone say Troy Tulowiski= Rookie of the Year? The Kid is sick and playing his tail off. Congrats to the Rocks and all of there fans. I know they are loving every moment of it. And good luck against whoever you play from the AL. Kick their ass.

First of all, congratulations to the Rockies for making it this far. But let's be honest Colorado: did you even know you had a team before a couple weeks ago? You had the 19th best attendance in the league at 28,978 and were 24th in percent capacity at a pathetic 57.4%. I'm not from Colorado, but I'd speculate if you had to rank your teams, it'd go: Broncos, CU football, Avs, Nuggets, then finally (maybe) Rockies. You guys really don't deserve to win a championship; the Cubs did (97.7% capacity, last championship 1908); the Phillies did (88.2% capacity, last championship 1980); even the "Mistake by Lake" with a sad 65.6% capacity has gone through enough pain since their last championship in 1948 to deserve a championship. I'm sure that the day after this whole baseball playoffs fad in Colorado is over, the local talk show hosts aren't going to be talking about the World Series, but instead why a high-expectations Broncos team in underachieving.

Sorry, that looks goofy with the link in the middle, I'd never used a link in a comment before and didn't realize it wouldn't work. Here's a clean version: First of all, congratulations to the Rockies for making it this far. But let's be honest Colorado: did you even know you had a team before a couple weeks ago? You had the 19th best attendance in the league at 28,978 and were 24th in percent capacity at a pathetic 57.4%. You couldn't even sell out the one-game playoff against the Padres (95.9% capacity)!
