How Much Is Too Much for a Weekend at Joe Pa’s?

Just returned from God’s country in South Bend, IN after seeing the Weismen over the weekend, and what will likely be Joe Pa’s last visit there. Thanks for coming Joe…We wanted to send you out with a bang, and I believe we did. To think Georgia Tech gave us more of a fight than your Pitty Lions. More, Less, what’s the difference, right…A win is still a win and a loss is still a loss. Who cares how much is it, right? Well, the margin of victory doesn’t much matter, but the prices that were floating around this weekend up in South Bend…Not that’s a different story.
Which leads me to this question…How much is too much to see one’s favorite team in person. Luckily for me, I won this trip to South Bend through Notre Dame which came with a two night stay in a South Bend hotel, Friday luncheon tickets, Gameday hospitality tent tickets, two field passes to be on the field for one hour before kickoff, and two tickets to the game, so all this was included. The only things I had to pay for was my airline ticket, rental car, and Thursday night hotel room. Now here is where the price game comes into play.
Thursday’s hotel room was $90, right across the street from the campus. To book a room in the exact same hotel on Friday & Saturday required a two-night minimum for a mere $350 per night. My math skills aren’t that great, but that comes out to $700 for the weekend (plus tax, of course). This was the norm for every hotel in the general area of South Bend…Booked solid! Next we have ticket prices. How about two tickets for $750 or one great seat on the 50-yard line for a steal…it was only $400. For this was the norm for the entire weekend in South Bend. Although I must say, the hotel where I laid my head for Friday & Saturday all guests didn’t leave empty handed, oh no. As a parting gift from the hotel we all got little miniature footballs…I guess that’s what you get for an $800 bill? Now isn’t that so thoughtful.
Luckily, I didn’t have to pay for any of it, but I was wondering, how much is too much to go and watch one’s favorite team play a big time game? I know it depends on everybody’s budget & shit like that, but how much is too much? We all are fully aware of ticket scalpers, they come with the territory, but these hotels are just as bad, if not worse! Perhaps it’s just me, but I prefer to get kissed before I get ******! I guess that’s where those little miniature footballs were for? A weekend in South Bend during football season is as golden as the Golden Dome is on campus. It turns out finding a place to stay close these days to any venue is virtually impossible unless you’re in the class of one Donald Trump…Hi Ivanka.
This past weekend during the Penn State game a ticket was the most sought after ticket in Notre Dame’s football history…And we all know the history in South Bend. Let’s just say you would’ve had a better chance of Lance Bass turning into a heterosexual than buying a single ticket for under $300. Tickets were to be had depending on the price one wanted to pay to be amongst the 80,000 or so patrons inside Notre Dame Stadium. As crazy as this may sound, tickets were far easier to come by than local hotels. Now again, the question I raise is how much would anybody pay to see one of their favorite teams play in person in a big game? What would be the factors that would go into this decision? What feels better, a banana up the ole tailpipe by some ticket scalper or having a hotel take you to the cleaners…Either way it doesn’t feel too good! On top of this, Penn State fans who traveled to South Bend lost a whole shit load of money, while getting their ass handed to them in the process…Thanks for coming Pitty Lions’ fans, hope you enjoyed the Bend’s hospitality, now go back to your Crappy Valley and launch a new website: JoeMustGo.com…Domain bought by LastRowSports.com.
