How Big is the KG Trade? The NBA Changes Its Schedule

21
Vote

by DNL

It's a trade so big that the NBA's 2007-08 schedule, which was due to be released Tuesday, had to be recalled and revised for reissue later this week to make sure the league's new hot team gets more national TV time. -- Marc Stein, ESPN.com

Are you kidding me?

All I have to say about that is this:

THe Celtics are going to be just like the Wizards, with three all-stars and nothing else. Good luck trying to make it to the NBA Finals. Also you guys gave up two future all-stars in Al Jefferson and Gerald Green, and two future first-round picks, so good luck rebuilding when Allen, Pierce, and Garnett start aging. If Ainge is smart he better sign a few solid players to fill out the roster like Brevin Knight and Ime Uduka

Gerald Green is not a future All-Star. He'll be a solid NBA starter, but he needs to learn how to shoot and play defense.

i really don't understand all the pessimism with the celtics. In order to get someone like KG, stars like jefferson are fair game. Overall the trade makes boston a top three team in the east immediately. Even if jefferson and green are headed towards stardom, you can't say that the celtics would have had Finals aspirations with them at their prime.

The "Big Three" they have is nice... but the rest of the team is rancid garbage. You need a TEAM to win a TEAM sport - just saying.

Hard to win with 60% of a decent team.

Oh, and the "Big Three" they have DON'T include a Point Guard OR a Center - generally the two most important roles on the floor

I heard there's a clause in Garnett's contract that on off days he will be the Bruins starting goalie.

I think it's actually they interchange Manny Fernandez and Manny Ramirez. Very hard to tell the difference.

Alright, I'm gonna stick up for Boston just this once... Give him a break on the race stuff. I know it's Boston, but hasn't he suffered enough already? Afterall, dude is coming from Minnesota!

I agree. I love Mike Wilbon as much as anybody, but his whole "KG won't go to Boston because he's black" thing was a little much. Let's just drop it. I could write a column about the whole thing but I'll restrain myself.

I haven't watch PTI in months, so i have no idea what you're talking about...

What i can tell you is...there really aren't that many black people in Boston (mostly Roxbury...which is blocks from my apt)...moreover, where the Gahden is, and the surrounding neighborhoods there are noooo other races except irish...its just the way it is...

BTW meg, i saw papsmear's apt today...pretty cool...

HE WAS IN MINNESOTA, FOR GOD'S SAKE! So there's not a lot of black people, that doesn't mean Boston's a racist city (which is what Wilbon implied). I'm not even talking about this anymore. Paps' apartment? I bet it was sweet. Where does he live?

Actually, Southie is rather notoriously racist... anyways, papsmear's Boston apt (I'm sure he has a house somewhere else) is on the waterfront...i happen to work overthere, so its really close...

Its right next to the garden...

annnnnddd...whitey bulger...

You're right though...we've also go the North end and east boston, who are predominantly italian (The north end is probably closest to the garden, but it doesn't feel that way) and the south end (probably closest to where i live) is the most diverse...and its a decent train ride to the garden...

Yeah, you're right...Its still ridiculously close (about as close as south boston) None the less, the surrounding areas of east boston, the north end, cambridge (across the river) and south boston and or the south end are all predominantly white...and i mean predominantly!

I can't speak to the NY piece, but having been there...its not a good place to go unless you're white...and even then...

of course, I live/have lived in/near roxbury...which is a tough place to live if you are white...(knock on wood) i've never had a serious problem...

Boston isn't a notoriously tough town, IMO...but some places can be rough...liek any city

It's a business, the NBA would be stupid not to remake their schedule, obviously everyone wants to see KG in a different uniform. It's all about business, money, and ratings.

5th pick in the draft. 21 is a retired number; there aren't too many options as far as jersey numbers are concerned with Boston, they retire damn near every single player who helped them win championships.

This shouldn't of happened. Maybe Minnesota and Boston purposely made the trade as late as they did just so the NBA couldn't change the schedule.
