How Badly Was Kris Benson Seeking Revenge This Weekend?

Kris Benson always has a calm exterior, seemingly never letting anyone see any emotion behind his placid face. But goodness almighty, with his actions tonight, he let Mets fans know that he was not a proponent of the trade that sent him to Baltimore.
The first thing he did was club a home run off of his former teammate Pedro Martinez and then the second thing he did was hold the vaunted Mets line-up to two runs in eight innings. He did not glare up at the New York Mets ownership box as he left the mound in the eighth a la Roger Clemens in 1997.
Benson said all the right things before the game, and although it was disappointing for sportswriters, he also did the right thing by leaving his press-mongering wife Anna at home this time. Scribes were undoubtedly disappointed in being denied from seeing a potentially scantily-clad Anna Benson during this heat wave in New York City.
But there were surely times during the off-season that Benson must have sat in a chair at home and muttered, "Jorge Julio and John Maine? For me?" Never mind the fact that the Mets have subsequently spun Julio off for Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez. It had to have stung.
And behind that stone-face tonight, Benson had to be thumbing his nose at the Mets for the trade.
It's always the quiet ones who are the killers.
