How's It Going So Far, Cashman?

This was originally posted on my blog, The Legend of Cecilio Guante.

Back in May, there couldn't have been more hype around Clemens's signing and the $28M contract. How come the million-dollar-per-start Rocket isn't getting more heat as we flip the calendar and head into August? Here are the stats that matter: 3 wins, 5 losses, 4.23 ERA. He's lucky this A-Rod nonsense is commanding people's attention.

In other "why is this not being mentioned" news...Lance Briggs recently signed a one-year deal with the Bears. Isn't this the same Lance Briggs who lambasted the organization and basically said you'd never see him in a Chicago Bears uni again? I know it's all grandstanding and negotiation posturing these days, but it still seems pretty ridiculous. Good news for the Bears, though.

With Glavine going for 300 again on Sunday, the dying breed talk continues. The interesting part of the discussion: Randy Johnson. A year or two ago this guy would have been a mortal lock in Vegas. Now, at 43, and still 16 short it's a long ways short of a sure thing. My guess? He'll gut it out like Biggio just for the sake of the record and then quickly vanish. Some might look at these guys as selfish. Personally, I don't blame 'em. When you've put two decades into your profession and a little ego can help immortalize your legacy the competitor in you has to go for it.

Besides that, loving the NFL season ramp-up. And, yes, there is football this Sunday. Niiice. As a side note, has T.O. out of uniform become a regular training camp visual or is it just me? Owens is becoming the Bonds of the gridiron. He's just tiresome at this point and you can't find a reason to like him.

Have a great weekend, all.

Not sure how you can hate on Cashman for the Clemens signing...that deal was pure George...

Even so...it doesn't cost "cashman" anything...all he cared about was getting a nice starter, which is what clemens looked like...he could have cost 1 mil or 100 mil...same effect on the cash...

So perhaps "How's it going so far, Steinbrenner?"

I agree! Cashman just has the credit card. But, whoever regrets it the most, what a friggin train wreck! They should get Clemens back on the juice immediately! Oops! Sorry! Was that out loud?

Your argument holds no water. It's 4 sentences long and then you move onto other subjects, including one's that don't even involve the sport.

Either way you slice it, the singing of Clemens is starting to look like a bad one.

i don't understand... other than yesterdays start Clemens hasn't been hit around. He's certainly been better than any other acquisition they could have made and they gave up nothing but cash to get him. If George isn't worried about the cash and he doesn't seem to be... what's the problem?

Why is everyone on George's case because of Clemens? Geez, it could have been alot worse. He could have paid 80 something million for DiceK.

I amazed how many people think George is still running the Yankees. He hasn't been for a while. Today there was a story about it, apparently some reporter ambushed him to see how his health was. But people have speculating on this for a while http://www.n...05102.column
