Hornets sack coach

2
Vote

Player pressure has forced Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd to make the shock decision to sack coach David Hockaday mid-way through the season. At the end of last year a group of senior players expressed frustration at the direct tactics being used, despite the same tactics bringing promotion last year for a team that had been bookie's favourites to be relegated at the start of the 2005-2006 season.

There's no doubt that the Hornets are capable of playing attractive, passing football through the midfield, and Boothroyd has promoted from within his own ranks in an attempt to bring this side of his players game to the fore. Veteran centre-back Malky Mackay, scorer of two goals against Stockport last weekend, has taken over from Hockaday as player-coach and will be a popular appointment with both the players and fans.
