Dixie Howell (Homer Elliott Howell) was born on April 24, 1920 in Louisville, Kentucky. He made his Major League debut on May 6, 1947 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1947, his rookie year, he hit .276 with 4 home runs and 25 RBI. Howell played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 7 year career.
Most people believe that Dixie Howell's best season was 1947, when he hit for a .276 average.
