Home Run Derby: Much Hype About Nothing

The Home Run Derby last night was missing something. The wow factor was missing since nobody really got untracked that much and if they did they did it for one round. Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder fizzled out fast in the competition.
Alex Rios made a name for himself in the second round but didn't make the finals. Even Albert Pujols couldn't make it to the last round. Something seemed to be missing last night. Maybe the derby needed players like Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds to make it more interesting.
The worst thing of all is that the derby took over three hours which is longer than some games. There was one game which was only 2 hours and 8 minutes long last week. The derby is interlaced with so many interviews, commercials, promotions of the Bronx is Burning show and frivolous reports from McCovey Cove by Kenny Mayne that it was a relief that the derby finally came to an end.
Maybe it is time to have less competitors and shorten it to two hours instead of the three hour marathon. I am sure people paid good money to see this in the stadium but don't think they got the money's worth. And the people at home watching it for free could have found better ways to spend a July evening.
