Holiday...

Even though this past weekend was extra long due to the holiday, the Steelers kept themselves busy. The biggest news of the weekend was the trimming of the roster. 22 players got cut. And there were a couple of quasi-surprises in the mix. For starters, rookie RB Gary Russell beat out veteran Haynes for the 5th and final RB spot. I'm thinking there must have been durability questions with Haynes because he was always a solid 3rd down back. Also, centers Chukky Okobi and Marvin Phillip got the ax. Chukky was due to make $2 million this year.
Only 5 drafted rookies survivied. LB Timmons, LB Woodley, TE Spaeth, P Sepulveda, and DB Gay. Timmons and Spaeth still have something to prove. Sepulveda needs to show consistency and accuracy in his 'Aussie' roll. But Woodley and Gay have already shown flashes of greatness.
All in all, I thought the cuts made sense. I was really glad to see Kreider still on the roster. I'm not sure about having 3 QBs though. With Batch as our backup do we really need three?
