Hillis Layne (Ivoria Hillis Layne) was born on February 23, 1918 in Whitwell, Tennessee. He made his Major League debut on September 16, 1941 for the Washington Senators. In 1945, his rookie year, he hit .299 with 1 home run and 14 RBI. Layne played for the Washington Senators for his entire 3 year career.
