Highest scoring NBA game in 11 years

by user Manny Stiles

For the second time in 11 years, two NBA teams combined to score over 300 points in a game. This was the highest scoring game in 15 years and 4th highest scoring game ever!!! Hold onto your non-armchair for this shocking tidbit, the Phoenix Suns were involved in BOTH of the 300 point contests that occurred in the last 11 years (losing to the Sonics last year 152-149 on some Ray Allen Bullsh!t)!

The New Jersey Nets scored a whopping 157 points in ONE game (and lost) needing 38 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists from Jason Kidd to surpass the sesquecentential mark. The feat ties him with Wilt Chamberlain for third on the all-time list for Triple-Doubles.

By the way, the Suns scored 161 points in the affair, led by two-time defending MVP/icy veined Point Guard Steve Nash aka "Shave Nest" and his measly 42 points and 13 assists on 16-25 shooting (6-7 from threeland).

Even if you cut the score in half and round to the nearest whole number, the Suns beat the Nets 81-79
Even if you cut the score in half and round to the nearest whole number, the Suns beat the Nets 81-79

Amare Stoudemire registered his 6th straight double-double before fouling out in the first OT. Shawn Marion shoved 33 points through the Nets' nylon and Boris Diaw played huge in crunchtime, nailing the coffin shut from the post after dropping 14 dimes on the Swampies.

Try to pull THIS feat off some time: The Suns shot 117 (ONE HUNDRED SEVENTEEN for you Arabic-numerally challenged) shots and committed only 12 (TWELVE) turnovers in the 2OT affair.

There was something like 114 lead changes in the game, what a thriller!!!

Me thinks the Celtics are in for a doseage of Marcus Banks, Jalen Rose and even a Pat Burke (the OTHER Pat Burke that is...) sighting tomorrow as the Suns are on a 5 game East-Coast romp.

Soon we will hear the whispers of "the Suns can't play Defense", etc and so forth...

(let me go all Chuck D & Flavor Flav on you)

...to them I say, don't believe the hype (YO Manny! They must be on the pipe right?) Their blogs and laptops I snatch 'cause I had it! I'm a Suns addict fiendin' for a 9 game winning streak...

If you say the Suns don't play defense, (you're not a FOOL are you?) because you should just admit you don't watch the Suns. They WON this game on key defensive plays tonight.

If you say that Steve Nash isn't worthy of TWO MVPs... start finding a deeper, darker cave to hide in... he's better than ever this year! He hit HUUUUUUUUGE threes to tie it up in regulation and to ice the game.

Now find a deeeeper, daaaaarker cave to hide in, because at this rate, "Shave Nest" is headed for #3 in the category of "Straight MVPs". That would enable him to join the sentence "The only NBA players to win back-to-back-to-back MVPs are..." with some guy named Bill Russell and another yokel named Larry Bird.

Lew Abdul-Jabbar never won 3 straight. MJ never won 3 straight (technically), the original MJ (Magic Johnson) never won 3 straight... put that in your bubble pipe and blow it.

Of course, Mrs. Stiles is ecstatic, not just because the Suns won, but she has 4 Suns on her fantasy basketball team (the Nash Rambler, Raja, the Brazilian Blur and Amare STAT).

161-157... Almost makes you miss the days of those fun 61-58 Knicks/Heat games, eh?...

Eyes on the Prize: The Championship season continues...

Is it "Save Nest" or "Shave Nest"? Or "Ashen Vets" (those old guys who know they're not as good as #13)? Or even "Ass He Vent"? Okay, I did one too many...

I'll stick with "Name Isn't Sly", although I kinda like "Nasty Sin Elm" (better than "Nasty Elm Sin" which sounds too hard to pull off to be real)... 21 Daily Wives, Devil Way Is 21, Ye Livid 21 Saw, Idly Waives 21

At what point does "For the second time in 11 years" become "For the first time in 10 years"?

that would be in another 10 years (smart ass). The Suns and Sonics put up 301 last year... so LAST year was "For the first time in 10 years" that 2 teams combined for >300.

When I originally keyed (as opposed to "penned") the article, I wasn't sure where the game ranked All-Time... I just knew that it was the second time in 11 years 2 teams surpassed 300 pts (they showed the graphic on the Suns telecast enough times for me to finally grasp the concept).

And yes, I'm still bitter at Ray Allen for hitting the 3 that won the 152-149 game last year and preventing a THIRD OT.

I love extra-extra innings, beyond sudden death OT football games and Quadruple+ OT games.
