Wow, a smart, reasoned, and non-overreactive decision made by the Yankees front office. Somebody call 911! Steinbrenner must be dead!

.289 OBP last time he played -- while playing in the bandbox in Arlington. Why bother?

Because he's still probably better than Melky right now.

It could work out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't. Hidalgo's only 30 (practically adolescent for a Yankee OF), but three years removed from being an effective player. Cabrera's .303 SLG is laughable, but his EqA (.262 right now) should be in the .250 range if he keeps playing. In contrast, Hidalgo's last two seasons have produced EqA's of .252 and .245. I agree with DNL -- what's the point?

He did a great job filling in for the mets a couple years ago. The yanks don't have much to lose by signing him.

I think the bigger point that I was trying to make is that it seems as if the Yankees are acting like any other club here by looking for reasonably priced, serviceable vets to fill in a hole.

I disagree with DNL. I think the more appropriate question is whats the risk? This is a team that had Kevin Reese and Mitch Jones on the roster and taking ABs in the last series. Richard Hidalgo is at least capable of a hot streak which he has done the last few years. He is a legitimate bat off the bench and certainly as good as Melky Cabrera. Indded, you have to wonder who you would rather have up in a 1 run game with bases loaded and 1 out, Richard Hidalgo or Arod.

Long, Hidalgo, Willis perhaps? Lots of different faces on the Yankees squad this year. Shades of 2003.

I recall the many fond memories I have of Hildago from his day(s) with the Orioles.
