Born on July 16, 1897 in Mount Sherman, Kentucky, Hi Bell (Herman S. Bell) played for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants over the course of his 8 year career. Bell broke into the bigs on April 16, 1924 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 4.92 ERA in 113.1 innings pitched in 1924, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Hi Bell's best season was 1933, when he posted a 2.05 ERA.
