Hernandez to the D-Backs for prospects

8
Vote

Today the Diamondbacks announced they had acquired RHP Livan Hernandez from the Nationals for two minor league starters. The D-Backs made the deal not only because there rotation excluding Brandon Webb has been unpredictable at best, but now Webb has been experiencing tightness in his elbow so it was imperative that another pitcher be acquired.

Hernandez this year has a 9-8 recored with a 5.34 ERA

The Nats in return got RHP Garret Mock who is 4-8 with a 4.95 ERA in Double A Tennessee and LHP Matt Chico who is 10-6 with a 2.81 ERA in Double and Single A.

They needed another quality starter regardless of Webb's condition. Not eevry waiver trade is a knee-jerk reaction to an injury. Livan is (was) an innings eater. Here's hoping he doesn't go the way of Russ Ortiz in "BoBChase Field"

great deal for the d-backs. if you're going to make a playoff push, this is the guy you NEED to do so. Even though he was on my team (the marlins) for a short while, he was a key element in their title in '97. In his career in the postseason, he is 6-2 with a 3.99 era and one complete game. Sasha, your D-Backs are looking good right now

with one caveat - that was then, this is now... remains to be seen.

well im just saying that he has postseason experience and is one of the most reliable pitchers in the game in terms of giving it his all. His last postseason appearance was in 2002. granted it was a few years back, but it wasn't too long ago. i believe the d-backs are headed in the right direction. you dont?

"he was a key element," that's a pretty severe understatement for defending your own team. Usually if someone has the chance to pull out the World Series MVP card, it flies out pretty quick. :-)

That Sexson trade completely blew up in our face. If we still had Capp we would have the West locked up by now.

yeah, that was a pretty bad trade. sexson and two no-names for for Junior Spivey, Craig Counsell, Lyle Overbay, Chad Moeller, Chris Capuano, and Jorge de la Rosa. Not the greatest bunch of players, but definitely a group that had promise. It is hard to blame the d-backs, though, as sexson was coming off of a 45 HR 124 rbi season. Hopefully Stephen Drew will work out well

good point. i thought that the addition of orlando hudson would turn out better than it has. you know, the NL West is full of mediocrity, but there is no other division that at this point in the season can be won by any team. i mean five teams separated by five games. this will be very interesting.

What's wrong with Hudson? He plays everyday, has a .350ish OBP at 2B, and plays elite defense.

Livan Hernandez is overpaid and underperforming. This deal won't help the D'Backs.

We just need a guy to go deep and Hernandez dose that. Oh with the Hudson thing we were just talking about prospects.
