Born on August 16, 1911 in St. Louis, Missouri, Herman Besse (Herman A. Besse) played for the Philadelphia Athletics for his entire 5 year career. Besse broke into the bigs on April 19, 1940 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 8.83 ERA in 53 innings pitched in 1940, his rookie year.
