Born on February 18, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Herm Wehmeier (Herman Ralph Wehmeier) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 13 year career. Wehmeier broke into the bigs on September 7, 1945 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 5.86 ERA in 147.1 innings pitched in 1948, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Herm Wehmeier's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1956, when he posted a 3.73 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 76 batters. However, others believe that it was 1957, when he posted a 4.31 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 91 batters.
