1. Ozzie Smith  SS ('87)  While The Wizard did post a higher OPS+ in '87 this year he had an avg of .303, an obp of .397 , 43 stolen bases and 75 rbi finishing with an OPS+ of 105

2. J.D Drew RF ('01) Really wish Drew could have hung around in Stl but alas was never beloved by the fanbase or the manager but in '01 put up .323/.414/.613 with 27 HR and an OPS+ of  162

3. Albert Pujols LF ('03)  Pujols early years in the OF helped me alot here as he put up the astounding line of .359/.439/.667 with 43 HR 124 Rbi's. He also had 212 hits and walked 79 times to his 69 SO. OPS+ 189

4. Mark McGwire 1B ('98) The Magical season that saved baseball but now represents its most tarnished moments. OPS+ 217

5. Jim Edmonds CF ('02) While the spotlight shifted to the young Pujols, Edmonds enjoyed a great 2002 putting up an OPS+ of 163 and playing excellent D.

6. Scott Rolen 3B ('04)  Part of the MV3 that powered the potent Cardinal offense in 2004, Rolen enjoyed his finest year at the plate with an OPS+ of 160

7. Darrell Porter C ('83) Porter allows us to keep the L,R splits that Larussa would love to employ with this team.  While '82 was a better year alas it fell outside the challeng guidelines and Porter at 7 in your lineup with an OPS+ of 120 from your catcher is not too shabby.

8. Jose Oquendo 2B ('89) While Herr probably had some better years Oquendo's OPS+ of  112 and his .375 Obp from the 8 spot allow us some flexibility for our Staff.

Bench:

Back up Catcher: Tom Lamkin was the starter Difelice' s better at the plate with an OPS+ of 88 compared to 65.

Middle Infielder: Placido Polanco ('99) not the best season by Polanco but he played 3 Infield positions well 2B,SS,3B and had an OPS+ of 72

Utility OF: Brian Jordan ('93) Jordan had the ability to play all three OF spots and in limited duty this year had a OPS+ of  138 with a line of  .309/.351/.543 with 10 HR in 223 at bats.

Pinch Hitter: Chris Duncan ('06) Spiezio almost got the nod here as a super sub but Duncan's 22 HR in 280 at bats translates to a OPS+ of 141.

Defensive Replacement:  Rex Hudler ('90) Hudler came to St. Louis from Montreal in 1990 and played his way into a regular role as Super sub.  While playing OF,2B,1B,3B, and SS he posted an OPS+ of 110 in STL.

Starting Staff:

1. Chris Carpenter ('05) Chris's Cy Young season had an Era+ of 151 21-5 record

2. John Tudor ('85) Tudor lost the Cy Young to Doc in '85 but wow what a second place 21-8 with and 1.93 era and an era+ of 183

3. Bob Tewksbury ('92) Cardinals didn't perform very well for Tewks in '92 finished 16-5 with 2.18 Era and era + of 157

4. Rick Ankiel ('00) Really wanted to go RLRLR with my staff and Ankiel before the playoffs in 2000 was a phenom.  Actually a much better year than his 11-7 record shows. 194 K's in 175 innings and an Era+ of 133

5. Joaquin Andujar ('84)  went 20-14 in '84 with a Era+ of 104. One of the last positions filled and hated to use this over better season's by Morris and Kile but only one per year.

Bullpen:

Closer:  Tom Henke ('95) Henke's age 37 season was great. 36 Saves, 48 SO's in 54 innings and an Era+ of 232. only gave up 11 earned runs all season.

Middle Relief:

Ricky Horton ('86) Era+ 163

Scott Terry  ('91) Era+ 133

John Costello ('88) Era+ 193

John Hayben ('94) Era+ 129

T.J. Matthews ('96) Era+ 142
