Herb Stein (Herbert Alfred Stein) was born on March 27, 1898 in Warren, Ohio. After going to high school at Kiski Prep (Saltsburg, PA) and NcKinley (Niles, OH), Stein attended the University of Pittsburgh. Stein made his professional debut in the APFA in 1921 with the Buffalo All-Americans. He played in the APFA for 1 year, playing for the Buffalo All-Americans the entire time. Stein also played in the NFL for 5 years, playing for the Pottsville Maroons, Frankford Yellow Jackets and Toledo Maroons over the course of his 5 year NFL career.
