Heinie Kirkgard (Henry Gotlieb Kirkgard) was born on September 2, 1898 in Danevang, Texas. Kirkgard attended Centre College, Southern Methodist University and Trinity University. Kirkgard made his professional debut in the NFL in 1923 with the Toledo Maroons. He played for the Toledo Maroons for his entire 1 year career.
