Hawks Sign Claxton

In spite of the ongoing spat between its owners, the Atlanta Hawks were finally able to finalize a deal with free agent point guard Speedy Claxton. The deal is a 4-year contract worth a reported $25.5 million. Claxton is expected to be named the starting point guard. Last season, Claxton averaged 12.3 ppg and 4.8 assists for the Oklahoma City/New Orleans Hornets serving as the backup to NBA Rookie of the Year Chris Paul.

Finally, the Hawks have addressed a much needed concern on their roster. Seemingly, Claxton will be their first "true" point guard since Mookie Blaylock. Now all they have to do is address the big hole they have in the post. I'm no basketball executive, but Zaza Pachulia isn't going to get it done.

I might have actually been an upgrade over their PG last year... nice signing, I'm a big fan of Speedy. He'll be able to push the ball well with all the young wings, make good decisions, and be just a monstrous upgrade over what they had. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

Well, he only had one year in Philly coming off an injury, and he does a lot of the same things as AI.

Oh, I'm not trying to deny that all of them had problems co-existing with AI... just mentioning I don't think that was the reason Speedy left Philly.

Good pickup by the Atlanta Hawks, Claxton is more than worthy of being a starting PG in the NBA. This could make Joe Johnson/Al Harrington stats go up.
