Have Glavine and Ollie Switched Places?

Oliver Perez looked horrible last year, and then would throw a great game for the Mets. In a nutshell, he was inconsistent.

Last year, however, Tom Glavine was consistent, throwing you a solid 6 innings, allowing 3 runs, or somewhere in that ballpark.

Things have gone wacky.

Perez, aside from two starts this year, has been consistently good all season long. As a matter of fact, he has only allowed more than three runs in a start in only three starts this year.

Not bad.

However, Glavine, after having a above average April, had a mediocre May where he posted a 2-2 record, and then he had a horrible June allowing 9 runs and 7 runs consecutively.

And then you get a start like Friday, where Glavine goes 8 innings and allows one run.

Have Glavine and Perez switched bodies? Has Perez become Mr. Consistent? Has Glavine become Mr. Inconsistent?

Glavine will be fine. He had two horrible, horrible outings, most likely due to him trying to get to 300 too hard.

More like Perez is having an out of body experience, not to worry, though. He'll wake up and soon enough will have an ERA over 5. AW is right on, Glavine's just pressing a bit because of 300. He'll be fine.

I dont think you are giving Ollie enough credit. I think he's gotten his head straight and has matured as a pitcher. I think Peterson deserves some credit if Ollie can continue his good fortune this year and repeat the same type of performance next year.

No, Oliver perez will return to form...he may have a good year even...but what you're seeing here is sheer luck...doesn't anyone else realize...its Oliver Perez for gods sake...This is like me boasting about how good Jon Lieber was pitching when he came back from a bull pen stint...oliver perez will return to earth...

I agree with you kelsdad and AW. Tom Glavine is worrying too much about getting win number 300. Plus, the Mets have been doing pretty bad as of late for some reason. They killed the A's in the series, so I guess they're finally getting back on track. I don't think Oliver Perez is THAT bad, like AW said. He did pretty damn good in '04. You're not seeing luck, you're seeing '04 all over again.

I agree. Perez may have finally shook all the Pittsburgh off himself.

It was a combination of Glavine trying too hard and the lack of offense the last two or three weeks for Mets. Still say Phillies are team to beat even though I am rooting for the Braves...once they get Meyers back they will be tougher than ever.

Does no one remember the ridiculous season Perez had a couple years ago? I think he'll continue to grow.
