Harry Stovey (Harry Duffield Stovey) was born on December 20, 1856 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on May 1, 1880 for the Worcester Ruby Legs. In 1880, his rookie year, he hit .265 with 6 home runs and 28 RBI. Stovey played for the Worcester Ruby Legs, Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Reds, Boston Beaneaters, Baltimore Orioles and Brooklyn Bridegrooms over the course of his 14 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Harry Stovey's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1889, when he slugged 19 home runs, stole 63 bases, hit for a .308 average and knocked in 119 runs. However, others believe that it was 1890, when he stole 97 bases, hit for a .299 average and knocked in 84 runs.
