Born on November 3, 1866 in Jacksonville, Illinois, Harry Staley (Henry Eli Staley) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Burghers, Boston Beaneaters and St. Louis Perfectos over the course of his 8 year career. Staley broke into the bigs on June 23, 1888 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.69 ERA in 207.1 innings pitched in 1888, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Harry Staley's best season was 1891, when he posted a 2.58 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 139 batters.
