Happy Townsend

Born on April 9, 1879 in Townsend, Delaware, Happy Townsend (John Townsend) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Senators and Cleveland Naps over the course of his 6 year career. Townsend broke into the bigs on April 19, 1901 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 3.45 ERA in 143.2 innings pitched in 1901, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Happy Townsend's best season was 1905, when he posted a 2.63 ERA and struck out 102 batters.
