Hank Sauer (Henry John Sauer) was born on March 17, 1917 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1941 for the Cincinnati Reds. In 1948, his rookie year, he hit .260 with 35 home runs and 97 RBI. Sauer played for the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and San Francisco Giants over the course of his 15 year career.

Most people believe that Hank Sauer's best season was 1952, when he slugged 37 home runs and knocked in 121 runs.
