Hank Poteat (Henry Major Poteat) was born on August 30, 1977 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Harrisburg (PA) and Maine Central Institute, Poteat attended the University of Pittsburgh. Poteat made his professional debut in the NFL in 2000 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that 2000 was Hank Poteat's best year, as he had 467 punt return yards, ran back a punt for a touchdown and had 465 kick return yards.
